Sanzekan Tinemi : Here
The collective brand Mezcales Sanzekan Tinemi, is a social brand that is property of the Maestros Mezcaleros in the municipalities of Chilapa de Alvarez, Zitlala, Ahuacoutzingo y Tixtla, said municipalities are found in the heart of the Montaña Baja Region of the state of Guerrero.
The collective brand of Mezcal Sanzekan Tinemi evolved within the Social Organization Sanzekan Tinemi S. de S.S., that has been functioning since 1990 in the indigenous communities of the Central Region of Guerrero a zone known as “The Door to the Mountains”. Sanzekan Tinemi was created as an instrument to assist and promote economic and social development in rural communities through the sustainable use and management of natural resources.
Today the organization has three areas of focus; To assist agricultural producers, production and commercialization of local art and reforestation of natural resources. Each area functions independently. Aside from the production and sale of various products, we maintain numerous training and organizing programs that serve to promote and preserve our natural resources.
All of the mezcal is bottled respecting the work done by each Maestro; For this reason every bottle has the name and signature of the Maestro Mezcalero, the region of origin, harvest date and lot ID. The mezcal from the collective brand Sanzekan Tinemi are made in an artisanal manner, following the tradition of ages, which has been passed down and respected from generation to generation. For the production of Sanzekan Tinemi we use maguey Papalote, Agave cupreata, a species endemic to the region of the valley of the Rio Balsas. Papalote grow between 1400 and 2000 meters above sea level amongst Oak forest, Mixed Savana and Low Jungle. Maguey Papalote need between 7 and 13 years to mature and reproduce only by seed; This is why Sanzekan Tinemi germinates seeds in community greenhouses and has a well developed reforestation program.
As a social company, we bet on the rational and sustainable management of our natural resources, as is such we have implemented various programs to guarantee this; Among others, we have a reforestation program for Maguey Papalote (producing 1 million plants annually), we also do soil conservation and water retention projects. The bagazo that results from the production of mezcal is converted into natural compost, and every one of the mezcal fabricas is equipped with biofilters to treat the residual waste water from the production process.
